Santiago-Rosalía de Castro Airport serves five million passengers a year, with a five-level parking facility of 1,655 spaces. The airport faced two challenges: increasing the security level of its car park — including verifying damage claims filed by customers — and finding equipment able to withstand Galicia’s wet, rainy climate, which had corroded previously installed systems.

Quercus Technologies installed 200 SC Indoor camera-based parking sensors with IP65/67 protection. Each sensor recognizes the license plate of parked vehicles, detects space availability and activates video recording of the surrounding spaces whenever movement is detected. LED matrix information panels guide drivers in real time to open spaces, while the LPR Area system reads plates at area entrances and exits to keep occupancy data accurate during the phased rollout. All information is centralized in the BirdWatch parking management platform.

The results were immediate. Since installing the system, the parking team has corroborated that 99% of the damage claims filed during the year were fraudulent, as they had not been caused on the facility premises. Passengers reach an open space faster thanks to real-time guidance, and the weather-sealed sensors operate trouble-free where previous equipment rusted.
